Maureen McKinnon

Olympic gold medalist / Disabled sailing director

Innocently walking her bike, Maureen tripped on a rope which made her fall over a sea wall 13 feet to the rocks below. From then on she has had to use a wheelchair. Her life was at an all time low when she re- discovered sailing, this time competitively. She went on to become the first woman in history to win gold in sailing at the paraolympics. But while training she learned her 2-yr old son was struck down with a brain tumor. She got him well and she got back to Beijing to win gold. Then she founded a disabled sailing program in Boston. She is currently training for the London games.
